National Congress
The Popular Library of this Legislative Body, offering a million of bibliographic
copies, is located at 1835 Alsina Street, two blocks far from the National
Congress. It gives you the possibility of comfortably consulting them from
Mondays to Fridays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to
9 p.m.
Daily attendance surpasses the 900 souls but, considering its spacious rooms,
nothing helps consulting a wide variety of university different texts. It
also grants a modern microfilm service complemented with a newspaper library
at a nearby building located at 1871 Alsina Street.
It is important to stress that, together with the National Library, it is
in charge of preserving the National Culture referred to written production.
A decree of 1933 turned it into the depositary of the totality of publications
as from that year on. Services are completely computerized, adapting to the
present times celerity required. It also counts with a printing service and
a bookbinding workshop that allows keeping and restoring altered material
by excessive use.
Its Cultural Extension Department is in charge of projecting the Library to
the community, making an important diffusion of its multiple activities by
means of audio-visual shows at primary and secondary schools of the Capital
City and the rest of the country. It grants its staff capacitating courses
and promotes and finances artistic and cultural meetings.
It is an active organization accomplishing its main activity as well as others
such as being a center for free exhibitions, conferences, round tables, debates
and entertainment for children. It encourages students to attend their rooms,
keeping up-dated material and an extended timetable.
