Ricardo Güiraldes Museum
SAN ANTONIO DE ARECO
PROVINCE OF BUENOS AIRES
We shall informally stroll along the RICARDO GÜIRALDES MUSEUM, located
at San Antonio de Areco. At the GAUCHO's ROOM we find a glass cabinet containing
the LOMILLO PORTEÑO, "recado" used before the 1830-saddle pad. It
has an "arzon" made of silver and a wooden soul that makes it fragile. It
belonged to a gaucho from Lujan, Don FRANCISCO GUTIERREZ, as the other classical
garments and adornments of "the one who feels proud of his gaucho condition",
exhibited in another glass cabinet.
We follow up until we find Don VICTORIO NOGUEIRA's "recado", with headstall
sticks made of silver and gold and General LUIS MARIA CAMPOS's one from
Buenos Aires, with top made of capybara skin and "MEDIO BRASERO" stirrups
of silver with initials in gold.
The glass cabinets surrounding the room, show valuable silver or leather-
plaited clothes belonging to the aforementioned characters, "unavoidable"
for traditional feasts or on "Sunday Parties".
There are also cattle brands, inevitable for both the animal recognition
and acknowledgement of its property, as from JUAN DE GARAY on. Among them
we find the ROQUE SAENZ PEÑA's one, leading the group in which the
gross "S" belongs to CORNELIO SAAVEDRA, the short "V" to VICENTE CASARES,
the little spade to DORREGO and the heart, located below the one of JUAN
BAUTISTA PEÑA, to General ROCA.
The glass cabinet with large knives, daggers and knives, next to which there are
two ponchos of Antonio Güiraldes and the copy of his hand, made by sculptor
GONZALO LEGUIZAMON PONDAL, few minutes after his death, lead you to Room number
One, where the poet's ponchos are exhibited.
The next step is Room number Two, where the visitor shall discover part
of its art gallery and his favorites armchair upholstered in green and a
little silver braid chair.
A table glass cabinet, presided by the Poet's Troop of Horses bell,
contains ropes, muzzles, hobbling straps, whips and small whips plaited
by ANICETO MELO with leather strings of said troop's MORO horse.
The pictures "TROOP OF HORSES" and "THE LASSO", by TODEAU, are located in
the same room. A glass cabinet contains the guitar with checkerboard decoration
in the mouth, nazarene spurs made of silver, neckerchief and the first publications
of his books.
The extremely rich art gallery stands out, with the works of the most famous
painters. MAUCIO RUGUENDAS, ALFREDO CARMAN, FIGARI EDUARDO SIVORI, two possible
PRILIDIANO PUEYRREDON's, VANNI, drawings and paintings by Güiraldes
together with other works constitute the greatest attraction of this room.
A beautiful collection of CHINA MATE VESSELS is in the room "ADELINA DEL
CARRIL DE GUIRALDES". Posters in French from the exposition of WATERCOLORS
by ALBERTO GUIRALDES in the CHARLES AUGUST GIRARD Art Gallery, between November
10th and 18th, accompany the visitor to the artist's corner, the glass
cabinet of which discovers an oil painting by ANGLADA CAMARASA, his guitars
and souvenirs.
